Jaalek’s grandfather was but a child when his parents fled the wreckage of Sarkoris. Long had mighty Sarkoris held against the orcs, witches, and giants who lived in neighboring lands. Many times had invaders come, and many times had they been driven back.

When the demons came, the people of Sarkoris fought . Yet the demons were mighty, able to resist the totem spirits of the Kellids. The demons resisted the weapons of the Sarkorii…and their numbers were beyond counting. After a time, there was nothing left to fight for.

Jaalek was very young when his grandfather died in battle. He stayed behind to buy time for the rest of the clan to flee to the south. Again. As always, they left what had been their home, fighting as they went. And as always, there were fewer of the Sarkorii. For many long years did the demons pursue them, and many were the kinsmen who died. Finally their clan was shattered, and Jaalek found himself lost in the wilderness, alone, far from his home.

He would have likely died if not for the elf woman. She found him exhausted and hurt, and helped him to recover. For a Southerner, she acted with a surprising amount of honor, and was familiar with the rules of hospitality that the gods demanded.

And now that debt will be repaid…
